Almost Awake is a “fast rising, high energy group of teenagers” that are carving out a slot in the mainstream rock music scene. Some of their music sounds very pop punk and some sounds very rock ‘n’ roll. Moreover, they focus on the having a “bombastic blend of melody and musicianship”, according to their Facebook page.

This band signed to Tommyboy Entertainment last summer, and they are in the process of mixing an album. So, they are a band to be one the lookout for.

You can follow them on Facebook, Instagram (@almostawakelv) and you can stream their music on YouTube and Spotify.

  • What are your biggest musical influences?

Individually, our influences & tastes combined pretty much cover the entire spectrum lol but I think the bands we all agree on & take inspiration from would probably be Polyphia, Coldplay, Paramore, etc

  • Do you listen to any band or genre that would surprise your fans if they found out?

I think musicals are my guilty pleasure, tho [sic] I do listen to a lot of weird shit sometimes haha

Tommy loves old school gangster rap

Kai loves harp music? Not sure how surprising that is lol

Bryson told me he also likes rap, this is something I just found out.

  • What’s next for the band?

We’ve got this lil [sic] West Coast run in April, as well as the release of our single “pretty things” that drops 04.20. We’ve got a record in the process of being mixed so we’ll be mainly focusing on that release but we also plan on touring the US & playing some more festivals this summer.

  • How do you think streaming services like Spotify and Pandora have changed how bands release music? Has it made it easier or more difficult?

I think everyone at this point understands how different everything is in the music world ever since streaming platforms took over. Personally, I think they’re great. like I’ve said, as an artist, as long as people are listening to the music who does it hurt? Releasing music has never been easier but I honestly feel like that’s caused the market to become oversaturated tho [sic].

  • Do you have any non-musical influences that show up in your music?

Kalani & I are super into art & nature. & horror movies lol.  We r [sic] very careful with the songwriting to make sure it gives a specific feeling the whole time, like looking at a painting or being at the beach or being afraid of the dark. Tommy & Kalani love video games so that kinda shapes how they hear the music as well. Cause video game music slaps LOL.

  • Can you describe your sound?

Oh boy, I can try haha

Our newer stuff has more of a groovy vibe. The vocals are Sadder, slightly more complex melodies. The rhythms are intricate and vibey, but we still have those power parts & smooooth [sic] guitar solos. Not even sure what genre we are anymore.

  • What are you listening to lately? Anything you would recommend?

I’ve been jamming new Billie Eilish (of course), sales, Anderson .paak, harry styles, bay faction, & Seratones

Tommy’s been listening to Nipsey Hussle, Joey Bada$$, Cage the Elephant, J. Cole, and Point North

Kalani has been on some J Cole, drake, Chris brown, Jason Derulo, Justin Beiber and Ariana Grande

Bryson’s been listening to the Dillinger Escape Plan, Covet, Hail the Sun, Periphery, Ded, Meytal, Good Tiger, and Sleep Token

  • What made you decide to “get into” music and start a band?

We all got into music at different ages individually. I started going to live shows with my mom when I was 9 & absolutely fell in love. That’s when I started singing. Kalani picked up guitar around 8 or 9 & played in church with me on the worship team. In 2014 we started writing original music together & it actually slapped so we formed a band so we could make more songs together. That’s when sweet Tommy joined the family. He started playing bass when he was in middle school.

  • How does your writing process work, do you all collaborate on the lyrics or is that job reserved for just one person?

I write all the lyrics & vocal parts. Kalani & I usually compose & arrange the songs first with just vocals & guitar, then add in the rhythm section. It honestly depends tho [sic]. lately, we’ve just been writing whatever comes to mind from whoever, we’re not picky anymore lol.

  • If you had to pick just one, which album would be your favorite?

Drowsy: Ok Computer by Radiohead

Kalani: Joe Satriani Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of rock is the perfect album from start to finish

Tommy: Take Off Your Pants and Jacket by blink-182

Bryson: This Is As One -Loathe/Holding Absence

  • Are there any bands you would desperately love to tour with someday?

I would loveee [sic] to tour with Now, Now, The Neighborhood, From Indian Lakes, or Paramore. kai said Polyphia, covet, or chon would be sick. Tommy wants to tour with Oliver Tree. I agree that that’d be sick & Bryson said he’d love to tour with Sleep Token or Oceans Ate Alaska

  • What are your thoughts about bands releasing more singles, rather than following a traditional route and just releasing albums?

I think it’s not good or bad just different. Like with streaming in general. It’s made everyone’s attention span so short & made people just generally more picky about what they like. That’s kinda the statement we are trying to make with our next release. Anyone can make up a formulated hit, but to write a good song with meaning that’s original, that’s a whole other skill set. That’s why we don’t have that much material out because we wanted to release a full project with a story and all that lame stuff.
